Project Management
Next set of contribs-packages-installed are related to project management. Three software contribs, namely mod_dav, subversion and trac are available for use on the IRIS server.
Given the circumstances a brief introduction to the three project management packages is necessary. Mod_dav implements DAV (distributed authoring and versioning) protocol on the IRIS server. DAV protocol helps web users contribute to information online by submitting their own files to be stored on the web servers. Even though mod_dav can be used directly as a stand alone contrib, we do not utilize mod_dav directly. Mod_dav is available on the IRIS server as part of project management and collaboration services.
The face of the project management and collaboration services on the IRIS server is the subversion (svn) software.
Subversioning (SVN) implements CVN
The interested staff members may request for setup of a new project. In brief, SVN provides a way to store all the files of a project with all the past versions at one place. SVN allows completely decentralized check-out and check-in facilities for the project files. Any participant needs to have only two facilities; first is the internet connectivity and the second is a SVN client software. SVN client software is freely downloadable from the internet.
A faculty member may request for setup of a new project by contacting the admin. In exceptional cases, students group may also be allowed to setup a project on the IRIS server. If you are interested, send a detailed proposal to IRIS@rvrjcce.ac.in with [project] label in the subject.
The third crucial piece of project management & collaboration services is trac software. Trac is an enhanced wiki written in python language. Project teams can develop project time lines, create milestones, keep track of scheduling issues, create task lists from milestones, generate help tickets, and keep track of bugs all from within the comfines of the trac software. Any approved project comes with coupled assignment on trac.
Right away, trac software is setup to keep track of hardware and software help tickets. Trac is setup to be available only on intranet, ie, on the college campus and in the city center.
Help Desk
A virtual help desk is available for the aggrieved the college members. All the staff members and students who have unresolved hardware and software issues may file their help requests online. IT support personnel will address the issue at the earliest possible time.
A special help desk is also available for computer lab-in-charge to file help requests online. Hardware technicians will address the requests at the earliest.
One piece of advice to the members requesting help or filing help tickets. Your question may have already been answered in either tutorials on in FAQs-Frequently Asked Questions. Please consult these two sections before filing an official request on the trac.
